Grolsch Master Brewer & Drummer

At 4 years old I was taken on a tour of the brewery by the Head of the Warehouse Department, my grandfather, Willem Florijn. I never looked back. 

Grolsch has always had a special connection to our family, in a funny way it’s as much a part of our family heritage as we are in Grolsches. Three generations of Janssens have worked at the brewery. The place, the people, the community, here feels like home.

The values have had a huge impact on my life. After receiving my diploma in Human Resource, I took a bold step. I followed my heart and became a brewer, just like my dad.

Now I wake every morning and after giving a kiss to my wife, I start thinking about brewing – How is the fermentation going? How is the taste developing? If I’ve got something in my mind, a beer, a crazy idea, a friend, my wife, my daughter, I’m going for it, 200%.

I was recently asked by our marketing department to brew a new Gose beer, but I’m not a scientific brewer, I brew from the soul. So, they were a little perplexed when I came back to them with an incredible Berliner Weisse, which I’d poured my heart into.

I just try to be honest and listen to myself. Every story I tell and every beer I brew is real. If I have to create a beer which I don’t like, I don’t want my name on it.

That’s who I am. A proud brewer, man and father.

We’ve been brewing a premium pilsner with real substance since 1842. A naturally green hop aroma, a crisp finish and a clean, confident bitterness from the combination of two Hallertau hops: Emerald and Magnum.
